An international school close to home
Grennaskolan is a national boarding school located in the small-town idyll of Gränna. The school welcomes expatriate Swedish students along with local and international students. The school creates an interesting and international environment with a strong local affiliation where everyone is included irrespective of their background. The students' language skills develop every day – not least through their circle of friends. All adults at the school have an overall responsibility for the students' well-being. Grennaskolan provides education for high school upper-secondary level.
At Grennaskolan you can choose between two national programmes; Business Management and Economics Programme (EK) and Social Science Programme (SA). We also have the IB Diploma Programme (International Baccalaureate) which is an international programme entirely taught in English. The two national programmes are taught in Swedish.
Grennaskolan is an excellent alternative for both boarding and day students. We provide most that is needed to lay good foundations for the future, and for the students to get on well and feel happy here and now – from safe and secure student residences to first-class teaching and an abundance of different recreational activities.
Grennaskolan was founded in 1963 by Stockholm University as Sweden's first international upper-secondary school. In 1970, it was transformed into a national boarding school with the objective of becoming an alternative for the children of Swedish people living abroad. A few years later, the Municipality of Jönköping became the responsible authority. Today, the school is oriented towards several student categories. Expatriate Swedes still represent the principal target group, but the school is also open to local, national and international students.
An open climate integrated within a small-town idyll
From the start, it has been important that the school be characterised by an open, welcoming and free climate, with its activities being a well-integrated part of a small-town idyll. The school is composed of several small wooden buildings, of which some date back to the 18th century. The school's longest corridor is said to be Bergsgatan, an historical street where private homes, a museum and a library are blended with classrooms, dormitories, dining room and old gardens. Apple trees and climbing plants frame the small buildings and decorate the neighbourhood with colour during all seasons. The Gränna Mount acts as a backdrop to the school, from where visitors can enjoy the wonderful view of Lake Vättern. It is a clean and healthy environment without exhaust fumes and large-city stress, with fantastic countryside close by.
Live at home or as a boarder
At Grennaskolan you will meet students both from the surrounding neighbourhood and from the whole world. At the end of the school day, you can meet your friends and take part in various recreational activities arranged by the school. Perhaps a boarding student will go home with a student living in Gränna and spend a pleasant evening together with their family as a change from the dormitories. During your years at Grennaskolan, you will build up a network together with your friends, embracing the entire world for the rest of your life.
We provide most that is needed – not only to lay good foundations for the future, but also for the students to get on well and feel happy here and now. We warmly welcome you to Grennaskolan – an international school in a small-town environment.
