Rowing at Grennaskolan
Rowing is strongly associated with classic universities like Oxford and Cambridge. Students at Grennaskolan and previous students have achieved prominent places in national and international competitions.
Why rowing?
Rowing is a beautiful combination of teamwork, balance, strength and stamina. Rowing provides the ultimate team spirit within the crew. There are no stars in a rowing team, but just a group of like-minded individuals who strive to achieve a mutual goal. When they are all in interplay, balance and harmony, major goals can be achieved. We believe that rowing is a team sport and therefore do not offer any individual boat training. As a rower, you must be willing to train at fixed times, because we are dependent on each other. Rowers are expected to be self-motivated and be able to organise themselves in a permanent crew. Our time and equipment are valuable. Serious rowers should therefore understand priority. Rowing is a wonderful sport that we hope that you will also have the opportunity to experience!
Training
Each oarsman is responsible for their own training, which takes place both individually and jointly. We try as much as possible to arrange the principal training times at Munksjön in Jönköping. In the winter, we meet twice a week in Grennaskolan's new gym, where training sessions with rowing machines are offered.
About the GRIFF Rowing Section
The GRIFF Rowing Section was founded in 2001. The club has since grown to one of Sweden's most dynamic clubs that has succeeded in producing two national rowers – Andreas Stensson and Mathias Maier. GRIFF competes regularly in the 22km-long Göta Älvrodd, and GRIFF Juniors currently hold the record for the competition.
Together with Grennaskolan Riksinternat, the club travels each year to Düsseldorf in Germany to take part in the Rhine Rowing Marathon, which is more than 43km long. The participants are selected based on physical condition, attitude, academic performance, good conduct, and of course proficiency and interest in rowing. GRIFF has won the Junior Cup in Düsseldorf several times. We also travel to other competitions both in Sweden and abroad. In recent years, we have visited Fermoy in Ireland and Cambridge University.
